Invision successfully demonstrates tracking across cameras at Penn Station

Invision successfully demonstrate tracking across cameras at New Jersey Newark Penn Station.

By combining 8 video streams from existing camera, end-to-end object tracking was made possible through spatial re-identification.

The challenge was announced by Transit Tech Lab that selected Invision AI as one of ten finalists for the COVID-19 Recovery and Environmental Sustainability challenges, a global competition calling for technologies to improve public transit safety and meet clean energy objectives.

Selected from nearly 150 applicants, Invision AI solutions used use artificial intelligence, machine learning and computer vision to improve the public transportation experience for millions of people in the tri-state area.

Invision AI tested its solution over an 8-week period with New Jersey Transit (NJ TRANSIT) to demonstrate its ability to create a digital twins of people in public transit spaces.

Based on the digital twins, transit agencies are able to generate powerful insights on the use of the public space. Public’s flow information that extends to the whole train station provides unique optimization potential by providing more granular information such as how many people going to a particular track came from another track, the parking lot or outside. The system also detect anomalies such as loitering or crowd behaviour changes.

The first COVID-19 Response Challenge was launched by the MTA and Transit Innovation Partnership in 2020 and led to eight productive collaborations with the MTA, the Port Authority and NJ TRANSIT. The call for applications for this year’s COVID-19 Recovery and Environmental Sustainability challenges launched in January 2022, with the goal of ensuring customers and employees feel safe, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and making transit more responsive to the needs of New Yorkers.
