Enhancing Passenger Capacity

Increasing Station Capacity using Behavioral Sciences and Video Analytics

In order to enhance passenger flow and experience at several subway stations, we drew insights from Behavioral Science to identify pain points and design strategic interventions.

Invision’s video analytics was used to evaluate the impact of these interventions.

We were able to get up to 27% more people out of platforms in any given hour, which will help the operator manage capacity into the future.

To achieve these objectives, the customer focused on two main goals by addressing proactively the psychological roots of problematic behaviors:

Speeding up
Boarding and alighting

  1. Boarding passengers do not always make way for those disembarking.
  2. Rushing passengers sometimes hold closing doors to get onboard instead of waiting for the next train.

Enhancing
Passenger Flow

Passengers disrupt traffic by stopping to orient themselves:

  • in concourses,
  • at fare gates,
  • around vertical circulation elements.
