Karim Ali Chief Executive Officer
One evening in 2016, Karim’s wife informed him that they were moving to Toronto. Realizing that resistance would be futile, he embraced the opportunity realized his dream of starting a company focused on edge AI. Karim is responsible for the overall technology vision for the company. Karim holds a PhD in Computer Science from Ecole Polytechnique férérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Massachusetts, Lowell as well as a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University. Karim has over 10 publications in leading computer vision and deep learning journals (including ICCV, ECCV CVPR and TPAMI). When not taking care of his two (soon to be three) children, Karim enjoys camping, searching the skies with his telescope and has recently taken an unexplained liking to golf.
Séamus Hatch Chief Marketing Officer
Séamus met Karim in 2016, they bonded around shared beliefs in edge AI, not following the crowd, and the joys of building a startup. Together Séamus and Karim provide business and technology leadership. Seamus has over twenty years’ experience building businesses around new technology as CEO, executive or board member. He was implementing distributed object-oriented securities trading systems in the 1990s, big data systems before they were cool, one of the first large-scale enterprise SAS systems, and spent six years managing venture backed technology businesses in China. Séamus is a lead mentor for TechStars Mobility, and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences. Seamus holds honors degrees in Computer Science and Finance from the University of Manchester in England. When not working he can be found riding dirt bikes with his two children, taking a Hot Vinyasa class, or playing with in increasing array of power tools.
Craig Loverock Chief Financial Officer
Craig has over 20 years of financial leadership experience in a variety of business environments. He has worked with organizations in several countries and industries, with an emphasis on early stage and high growth technology companies. Craig is responsible for finance and accounting at invision.ai, including forecasting, business modeling, payroll and expenses, and tax. Craig has an Honors Bachelors of Commerce and is a chartered accountant.
Aye Myaing Director of Engineering
Aye manages the software engineering team, and leads the design and architecture of software that runs on edge devices. Aye has been with Invision AI since its inception. He is a software engineer with over 15 years of experience in software architecture, design, and development. Throughout his career, Aye has worked in challenging fields including IoT, smart home, medical diagnostics, ultra-high speed digital press, and telecommunications. He is a graduate of Ryerson University and is a licensed professional engineer (P.Eng). Aye tries to stay active through hiking and biking. He also plays guitar, drums, and has admitted to playing the occasional round of golf.
Zhijie Wang Director of AI Engineering
Zhijie is responsible for exploiting and designing new algorithms to solve challenging problems in computer vision. Zhijie joined Invision in May of 2018. Prior to that, he has spent more than 10 years working on many projects using a variety of imaging sensors. Zhijie graduated from University of Alberta with a PhD in Computer Science. As a researcher he has published more than 20 peer reviewed journals/conference papers and has been a reviewer for more than 10 journals/conferences. Zhijie enjoys life with his wife and two daughters.
Jessica Kishimoto Project Manager
Jessica herds cats with gentle but persistent efficiency: scrum master to our agile development teams and remover of obstacles. Jessica earned a PhD in Medical Biophysics from the University of Western Ontario where she developed and validated a 3D head ultrasound system including hardware and software. Her thesis is on the ability of the system to detect whether a brain bleed in extremely premature neonates would require surgical intervention. While Jessica thoroughly enjoyed working with large clinical and academic teams, she felt her time was best spent in the faster pace startup space. Previously she worked in two small Canadian tech startups in both product and project management roles before joining Invision in 2018. In her spare time, she bounces between sports, yoga, video games, fishing, and walking her cat.
Meena Karunanidhi Senior Software Engineer
Meena develops and optimizes Invision’s machine learning applications. She holds a Masters in Computer Engineering at University of Toronto, with emphasis on artificial intelligence and heterogeneous parallel programming. Her thesis was based on the evaluation of mixed numerical precision in convolutional neural networks. Prior to that, she spent 3 years working at a startup in India focused on the design and parallelization of image processing and Machine learning applications. In her spare time, Meena enjoys keeping active by playing badminton and swimming.
Amal Feriani Senior ML Engineer
Amal is focused on the application of deep learning techniques to efficiently solve real-world problems. Prior to joining Invision she worked at Netatmo developing deep learning algorithms for smart cameras, leading the development of efficient face recognition models. Amal reduce inference time on the camera CPU by 50% and enhanced the performance of face verification by 6%. She also worked on several research projects such as deep ensemble learning and fairness in face recognition.
Amal earned a B.S. in Computer Science and Statistics from Ecole Polytechnique de Tunisie and an M.S. in Computer Science and Machine Learning from University Paris Dauphine. During her masters she worked at IBM France developing a dynamic dashboard to monitor support team’s activity. Post graduation Amal joined the IBM Watson team where she work on the implementation of NLP-based applications (virtual assistant, email-analyzer).
Outside work, Amal enjoys hiking and sports, most recently taking up yoga and kickboxing. She also enjoys concerts and theater.
Camila Sanchez Software Engineer
Camila integrates trained machine learning models and application code in C++. She also maintains the product demos, and can occasionally be seen pacing in meetings rooms and staring at cameras as she tests the demos. Camila graduated from Ryerson University’s Biomedical Engineering program and joined Invision in May 2018. Camila was awarded the Academic Excellence Award from Ryerson’s FEAS Department and an Ontario Center of Excellence TalentEdge Internship for her work. Camila enjoys relaxing and spending time with family and friends. After her recent visit to Canadas’s Wonderland she is developing plans for a team outing (and is particularly curious about the biomedical impact of 4+g on her teammates).
Faheem Irfan ML Engineer
Faheem Muhammad Irfan, Machine Learning Scientist Intern, trains the ML modules for different client projects and deploys that to various processors. He earned a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology in Lahore, Pakistan, and also has a Master of Applied Science in Electronic Systems Engineering from the University of Regina. His thesis was on the detection of textureless occluded objects using deep convolutional neural networks. After finishing his studies, he joined the Invision team in September of 2018. Faheem plays cricket and squash and also enjoys hiking through nature, in fact he is already looking forward to going through the Dudipastar Trail the next time he goes back home.
Cindy Liu Software Engineer
Cindy is rapidly developing machine learning skills while programming in C++. She attends the University of Waterloo, and is a third year undergrad co-op in Systems Design Engineering. Cindy holds NSERC and MITACs awards as part of her co-op studies. She finds the concept of computer vision and AI to be extraordinarily interesting and looks forward to seeing how far it will go. She enjoys video games, playing music, and reading fantasy and sci-fi novels when not being one of Invision AI’s amazing co-ops.
